What is an RNG?

A Random Number Generator (RNG) is software that produces unpredictable sequences of numbers. In licensed online casino games, the RNG determines outcomes (e.g. symbols on a slot or cards in blackjack) so that each result is fair and cannot be predicted or tampered with.

How it works

Licensed operators use certified RNGs that are tested by independent labs (e.g. eCOGRA, iTech Labs). The algorithm uses a seed value and mathematical operations to generate numbers that pass statistical tests for randomness. Each spin or hand is independent of the previous one.

Why it matters

UKGC-licensed sites must use certified RNGs so that games are fair and outcomes are not manipulated. You can usually find information about certification in the game or in the operator’s footer.
